French Double Barrel Flintlock Pistol by Rennes Jourjon


.48 caliber. 4.25" barrels. NSN. Browned barrels, bright locks, iron furniture, raised carved European hardwood stock. Double barrel smoothbore muzzleloading flintlock pistol with left and right locks, two triggers, a tang groove rear sight and no front sight. 3.125" convex locks with integral rounded, fenced and bridled steel pans and rounded swan neck cocks. Right lock is signed Jourjon in script with the left lock signed Rennes. Barrels decorated with engraved flowing foliate patterns highlighted with gilt inlays, stock with raised carved foliate patterns at the apron and forward of the triggerguard finial. Includes a broken brass tipped wood ramrod. According to Stockel, Rennes Jourjon worked circa 1770 in Ille-et-Vilaine, in the Brittany region of France. {ANTIQUE}

Condition
Good to very good. Bores dark, dirty, heavily oxidized and lightly pitted. Metal with traces of finish mixed with a lightly oxidized plum brown patina and some scattered surface roughness. Some gilt remains intact. Engraved designs somewhat muted in appearance. Steel furniture with a moderately oxidized brownish-gray patina. Locks are not mechanically functional and neither cock will engage in the half or full cock positions. Stock good to very good with scattered bumps, dings and mars, some cracked damaged around the forend tip on both sides and a couple of tiny chips out around the lock mortises.
